Don will be providing a comprehensive overview of management consultancy and will speak about the ‘hot’ sectors in the consulting market for 2017/18, along with the prospects for students who want to join a consulting firm.

For those unfamiliar with the sector, he’ll give pointers on the rank at which you’ll enter, the likely salary, and the state of the market in various countries. He’ll talk about the strategy houses and the Big Four accountancy firms’ advisory arms, but he’ll also be encouraging you to look beyond the big names in the sector.

He will outline how a spell with a boutique firm can benefit your long-term career, discuss examples of such firms, and show you some techniques to get you in front of consultancy interviewers. Finally, he’ll be asking “Do you really want to be a consultant?”

Don worked for Deloitte in the UK and South Africa before moving into recruitment, and from the early 1980s he was the first to focus on management consulting recruitment.
He was a Founder/Director of Beament Leslie Thomas (BLT), a consulting recruiter which acts for a wide variety of management consultancy firms, working on search, retained and contingency recruitment. BLT was been voted ‘Best Recruitment Agency’ for many years by the readers of Top Consultant, and Don himself topped the poll for best recruiter on a number of occasions. In 2015 he was elected to the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants.
Don stepped down from BLT in 2016. But he continues working as an independent adviser to business schools and universities on careers in strategy and management consultancy.
