The KCLBC Health and Life Sciences team invites all undergraduate, postgraduate and research students to “Beyond the White Coat – Commercialising medical and biotechnological discoveries,” on Thursday 8th March, 6-8pm at Gowland Hopkins Lecture Theatre, Hodgkin building, Guys campus.

Guest speakers Joshua Kapp and Alan Edwards will share their experiences in working with successful Med-tech and Bio-tech ventures and guide students through the early stages of commercialisation of medical and biotechnology/life sciences discoveries. The speakers will also provide advise to students.

– Joshua Kapp is the Global Product and Regulatory Affairs Manager at Horizon Discovery, the company behind the discovery of new gene targeting technology, which led to the development of various industry-leading biotechnological products, including cell lines, diagnostics and bioprocessing products. Joshua Kapp is starting the company’s new bio-processing business unit with a sales target of £1.5 million this year, whilst he himself is responsible for £3 million of 2012 sales revenue.

– Alan Edwards sits on the board of 7 Med-tech and Biotech ventures, some of which were set up as university spin-offs and are currently generating millions of pounds in revenue. He has an entrepreneurial score card of successful involvement with six early stage ventures and his vast work experience spans across over ten different successful businesses, including Veryan Medical Ltd, Cardiak Ltd and Vivomedica Plc.
